12/17/09: 12/17/09 @ 4:30pm

Here, in a rare act of conscious redundancy (accidental redundancy being the norm), I use the date as the title and then append the time of recording so as to leave no doubt whatsoever as to when this track came, unheeded, into existence. Perhaps the shortness of the track (0:48) offers a hint as to the inclusion of the time in the title: it’s my not-too-subtle mea culpa, my way of saying to myself, “Really, what do you expect of me this late in the afternoon?”

I continue: “I mean, we have three kids here. I’m up by 6:30-7:00am, in the studio (if not teaching) by 8:15. By 4:30pm I’m only good for the most mundane of mental chores: not even responding to emails I’ve avoided all day; more like just deleting emails I’m not going to read at all.” Indeed, I have a point. In this context, 48 seconds is not so bad.
